    Rabka is a famous children's health resort, its popularity owing to the specific local microclimate and precious brine baths (the Polish chronicler Jan Długosz mentioned the "Sal in Rabka" in his Liber beneficiorum as far back as the 15th century).     Plastusiowy pamiętnik, one of the most important item on every first grader's reading list, as well as other unforgettable children's books by Maria Kownacka (1894–1982), originated here. Kownacka co-operated with the newly founded local kindergarten, "Plastusiowo", since 1966.

  • Poręba Wielka and Władysław Orkan

    An important figure in the cultural landscape of Gorce was Władysław Orkan (properly: Franciszek Ksawery Smaciarz; 1875–1930), an eminent artist creating in the period of Young Poland period, but independent of its stylistic influence, the author of a novel entitled W roztokach. "Orkanówka", the writer's charming cottage in Zagroń, Poręba Wielka, was adapted to house a dedicated biographical museum.

    Drivers rushing down the "Zakopianka" (a route connecting Krakow to Zakopane) pass by a small wooden church in Piątkowa Góra, a hill in the Western part of Gorce. Impressive views stretch out from atop the hill. The town once had an inn, a stopping place for 19th century tourists, who had just begun to discover the Tatras at that time. One of such tourists was Wincenty Pol (1807–1872), a poet, geographer, ethnographer, and professor at the first Polish Chair of Geography at the Jagiellonian University.
